December 202003 December 2020 The harvest has been going well but we are now seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Some growers have already finished and so the long hot days drag to a close with fewer and fewer deliveries, and so with longer periods of nothing in between deliveries, we have been enjoying the air conditioning on these really hot days, and generally trying to stay out of the sun, and hydrated.
We almost filled the Barley Bulkhead (left hand side) this year. Different types of wheat is stored in the two sheds and the bulkheads on the right hand side of this shot.
A better than expected harvest this year, but nowhere as near as good as other years. The clean up will begin shortly and then before we know it, the years grain harvest will all be over for another year, then it will be Christmas with family and another, interesting, year will come to a close. 09 December 2020 And then the rain came to visit, halting our work, and that of the farmers that are still getting their crop in.
Looking North East as the storm begins to build, including a rainbow effect and lightening.
But wait, there is more coming. 31 December 2020 The harvest finished a week ago and since then we have taken a trip back to Perth for a family Christmas, returned to start the clean up, returned to Perth for the Christmas break weekend, and returned to complete the clean up, which we actually did today. Everything has been blown down and cleaned up ready for the pest controllers to gas the place as it settles into storage mode. So once again we are blissfully unemployed. 2020 was indeed an interesting year, and certainly one full of uncertainty. But...we have made it through thanks to friends, both old and new, and of course family. We will be sleeping here for our last night in Bruce Rock when the calendar changes from 2020 to 2021 and then taking a few days to head South to Denmark again for the foreseeable future. And that is the only certainty we have at this stage. Here's hoping 2021 will be kinder to the world as we reflect on life's lessons of 2020. Wishing you all a Happy, Healthy, Prosperous and Peaceful New Year. May the year be filled with your hearts desires, and free of COVID. Mark Twain once said "...years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do that by the things you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." - and so we will. |
